How cancellation policies work
Each listing has a cancellation policy selected by the Host. The applicable policy and any protected deposit are shown on the listing and during checkout. The policy attached to a confirmed booking remains the policy for that booking, even if the Host later changes the listing.
This page explains the current policy options. It forms part of our Terms of Use.
Policy options
A Guest may cancel a confirmed booking before the deadline shown below. If the Guest cancels in time, the refundable trip subtotal is returned, less any protected deposit selected for the listing.
- Flexible. Cancellation is available until 24 hours before the trip starts.
- Moderate. Cancellation is available until 7 days before the trip starts.
- Standard. Cancellation is available until 14 days before the trip starts.
- Strict. Cancellation is available until 30 days before the trip starts.
The deadline is calculated from the scheduled trip start in the listing location. Once the deadline has passed, self-service cancellation is no longer available. Contact Support if unusual circumstances require review.
Protected deposits
A Host may protect from 0% to 100% of the trip subtotal, in 5% increments. When a Host protects 100%, the trip subtotal is nonrefundable once booked. The protected amount is nonrefundable whenever the Guest cancels, including immediately after booking and regardless of how far before the deadline. The listing and checkout show the protected percentage before the Guest books.
A protected deposit does not limit a Guest refund when the Host cancels or when HUNTNHOOK determines that a full refund is required.
Refund amounts
Trip subtotal. For an eligible Guest cancellation, the trip subtotal is refunded except for the protected deposit.
Taxes. Taxes associated with the refunded part of the trip subtotal are also refunded.
Guest service fee. The Guest service fee is nonrefundable unless checkout states otherwise or applicable law requires a refund.
The exact refund amount is shown before a Guest confirms a cancellation. Refunds are sent to the original payment method. Processing time depends on the payment provider and financial institution.
Pending booking requests
A Guest may withdraw a booking request while it is waiting for Host approval. Any payment authorization is released, and no cancellation charge applies. A bank may take time to remove the authorization from the account.
When a Host cancels
If a Host cancels a confirmed booking, the Guest receives a full refund of the remaining amount paid for that booking. Host cancellations may also result in fees, account review, calendar restrictions, or other consequences under the Terms of Use.
Hosts cannot use self-service cancellation within 12 hours of the trip start or after payout release has begun. In those cases, the Host must contact Support.
Weather and safety
When weather or safety conditions prevent a trip from taking place, the Host may offer a reschedule or use the weather cancellation process when it is available. A completed weather cancellation provides the Guest with a full refund.
Guests and Hosts should not continue with a trip when conditions are unsafe. Contact Support if the weather tools are unavailable or the parties cannot agree on the next step.
